ECC memory

Error-Correcting Code memory. Server-grade RAM with extra bits that detect, and for single-bit errors automatically correct, the cosmic-ray bit-flips that happen in any large memory bank. Without it, a flipped bit silently corrupts data in memory before it ever reaches disk — and no filesystem checksum can save you from that.
